The WTG/S4A is a rugged, self-contained field-deployable instrument which may be mounted on the sea bottom, fastened to an existing structure, or attached to a mooring. This flexibility greatly simplifies installation and permits easy relocation of the gauge.

The WTG/S4A stores up to 64 megabytes of information in solid state memory for non-volatile data storage. Data is retrieved through a RS232 port to the users terminal, computer of other storage device. 256 and 512 Megabyte memory options are also available.

The WTG/S4A measures and records water level data as a function of time. The combination of high data recording rate, fine resolution (4 mm), and the capacity to access data remotely, makes the WTG/S4A a truly versatile instrument, ideal for critical or complex tidal measurement applications, and non-directional wave analysis. Optional sensors of Temperature, Conductivity, and Turbidity add further to the capabilities and versatility of the WTG/S4A. Salinity, Water Density and Sound Velocity are computed with the WTG/S4A Application Software.

Dual Mode programming allows the user to collect any type data under two separate independent and completely user-defined sampling schemes. For example, wave data can be collected in high-speed burst sampling mode while tide and optional CTD or Turbidity parameters can be recorded under a separate sampling scheme using a different user-defined recording average and cycle duration. This dual-mode capability for separate independent user-defined sampling and recording schemes allows a single instrument to effectively do the job of multiple instruments.

Applications software provides a simplified instrument set-up menu, stored calibration values, and output stored or as real time data. Optional Wave for Windows software performs uni-directional wave analysis to provide output of wave energy as a function of frequency plus many additional wave parameters and period statistics.

The pressure transducer, available sensor options, and integrated circuits that are used to make up the instrument assure rugged and reliable long term operation minimizing the need for servicing or maintenance.
