General Description
The 1090E Transponding Acoustic Release is a compact, microprocessor controlled implementation of the popular 1090, hundreds of which have been used for more than 10 years around the world. The performance and operating characteristics are identical to the 1090 with the addition of microprocessor control, an improved power pack (two "D" lithium batteries) and reduced size and weight. The smaller size and lighter weight make deployment and retrieval of moorings from small vessels easier and safer.

Operation
The 1090E incorporates a highly secure sequential tone coding technique which virtually eliminates problems due to ambient background noise and multi-path distortion, which are the principle problem areas in acoustic coding systems.

The 1090E receives incoming coded acoustic signals, processes them and, if the code is correct for that individual unit, performs the encoded function. Upon receipt of the correct release code, the 1090E is activated, the electric motor releases the hook and then a series of "PINGS" are transmitted to confirm release. A second coded signal enables the interrogate reply electronics. Once the interrogate reply electronics have been enabled, a transpond interrogate frequency, transmitted from the surface command transmitter, will generate a reply signal from the 1090E for relocating and tracking purposes. The third coded signal rearms the release mechanism and automatically disables the interrogate reply electronics as a battery saving feature. The multi-frequency transponder interrogator feature allows use of many arrays of transponders within the same acoustic range of the system.

1090ED
The 1090ED has the same capabilities and operating characteristics as the 1090E but is designed for applications with deeper depth requirements. Like the 1090E it is ruggedly constructed of aluminum alloy, small and easy to handle. The 1090ED incorporates transponder and pinger capability and may be equipped with a Tilt Sensor and Alarm. The InterOcean Tandem Release Mounting Bracket and/or Tag-Line Canister are also available as standard options. An especially unique feature is the ability to separate the acoustic receiver/transponder section and release hook mechanism as may be required on subsea frames, landers, or ROV's to prevent acoustic shadowing.

1090ES Acoustic Release Control System
1090ES

1090ES
The 1090ES is a modification of the Model 1090E. An external connector has been added to control an external instrument pack by opening and closing a set of relay contacts. The relay contacts are controlled by an acoustic signal, transmitted from a Model 1100E/1100ES. An ON code closes the relay contacts, and is the first two frequency codes of the Rearm code. An OFF code opens the relay contacts, and is the first two frequency codes of the Release code. The 1090ES can read a one bit status signal through the connector and transmit that status as an acoustic signal.

Options

  • Tilt Sensor & Alarm
  • Tandem Release Mounting Bracket
  • Pinger

Applications:
  • Instrument Installation
1090E Acoustic Releases can be used as part of a taut-line instrument mooring for short or extended recording periods and subsequent recovery. The 1090E is an ideal companion for the InterOcean S4 Current Meter.
  • Acoustic Navigation System
An array of three 1090E Acoustic Transponding Releases can provide an operational grid system to be used as a bottom reference to track a manned or unmanned submersible.
  • Instrument Capsule Command
1090E and acoustic command receiver can be used to supply release and other command functions to instrument capsule or other similar equipment.
  • Survey System
One or more 1090E Acoustic Transponding Releases can provide a short or long baseline reference from which a survey can be conducted to determine exact position of the survey vessel in reference to the transponders. This reference allows the user to identify areas of interest for further detailed survey or for marking important sites or anomalies.
