The Model 1090EP is a programmable underwater acoustic pinger. The pinger offers eight frequencies, and eight operating modes consisting of four pulse rates and four burst intervals. In operation it periodically emits a 30 second burst of acoustic pulses. The pulse width is fixed a 22 milliseconds. The acoustic frequency, pulse repetition rate, and burst interval are programmable.

On/Off control of operation is accomplished with a external jumper plug. The unit is powered by internal batteries and housed in an aluminum pressure case, designed to operate to depths of 6,000 m, with in-line mooring configurations with tension load of up to 4,750 kg.

The Model 1090EP-1 emits a 4 mS acoustic pulse at a user programmable repetition rate. The acoustic transmitted frequency is also user programmable at one of eight fixed frequencies. On/Off control of the pinger is accomplished with an external jumper plug.

The 1090EP and 1090EP-1 are operated with the InterOcean Model 1100E Surface Acoustic Command Control Unit or Model 902 Acoustic Listening and Calibration System.
